  SERIES 8 (WATERCOLOURS) - 2001 - SIMPLY PAINTING AROUND THE WORLD – 6  -  26 X 30 MINS.

FRANCE:  In the first half of the series, Frank Clarke finds inspiration in the beautiful and historic region of Normandy in northern France.

1.    Deauville/Trouville - Frank Clarke begins his French painting adventure in these two towns, along the fashionable flowery coast of northern France.  Painting:  Field of yellow flowers.

2.    St. Theresa of Lisieux - Frank visits the town of Lisieux, where Saint Theresa, “The Little Flower of  Jesus” spent her life as a Carmelite nun.  Painting:  Little church in a field.

3.    Mont-St-Michel - One of Europe’s greatest tourist attractions, Mont St. Michel is a Gothic citadel of terraces and spires, occupying a small island just off the Normandy Coast.  Painting:  Mont St. Michel.

4.    La Mere Poulard Restaurant - At a famous country inn on the island of Mont-St-Michel, Frank samples the local fare and visits a fish market.  Painting:  Digging for clams and mussels.

5.    Monet - Frank pays tribute to the great impressionist Claude Monet at his much-visited home in Giverny.  Painting:  Monet’s Garden - Lily Pond bridge.

6.    Benedictine Palace - In the extraordinary palace built to house the Benedictine distillery, Frank takes a tour and learns the romantic history of the world-renowned liquer.  Painting:  Fruit- cherries, apples, pears, grapes.

7.    Etretat - Frank visits the chic town of Etretat, nestled between huge cliffs on the Normandy coast, and tours the art gallery and famous Cathedral of Rouen.  Painting:  Man and red boat on the beach.

8.    Rouen - In Rouen, Frank visits a ceramics museum and recalls the tale of Joan of Arc, who met her fiery finale in this Cathedral city.  Painting:  Vase of daffodils.

9.    Bayeux - Frank visits cathedrals at Caen and Bayeux, home of the famed Bayeux Tapestry, and stops in the mediaeval town of Falaise.  Painting:  William the     Conqueror’s birthplace.

10.    Chateau Balleroy - Frank visits the Chateau de Balleroy, home of the International Balloon Museum.  Painting:  Yellow field, trees, church spire.

11.    Impressionists - Frank visits the delightful harbour town of Honfleur at the mouth of the Seine, a town which was - and still is - a magnet for artists.  Painting:  Honfleur Harbour.

12.    D-Day Landing - Frank visits many of the sites associated with the D-Day Invasion, including Omaha Beach, and the American and German cemeteries.  Painting:  Family walking on Normandy Beach.

IRELAND:  In the second half of the series, Frank roams his native Ireland, from the western islands to Dublin City, finding much to paint along the way.

13.    M.V. Normandy - The M.V. Normandy takes Frank from northern France back to his native Ireland in the second half of the series.  Frank visits a haunted house and his mother’s family home in Co. Wexford.  Painting:  Tuskar Rock lighthouse.

14.    Famine Ship - Travelling back in time aboard a Ôfamine shipÕ, Frank encounters dissatisfied passengers in both first class and steerage.  Painting:  Path in the woods.

15.    Lough Bray - The village of Hollywood and Russborough House, a stately home plagued by art thieves, attract Frank’s attention in the Lough Bray region outside Dublin.  Painting:  Fisherman on Lough Bray.

16.    Ballykissangel - The fictional town of Ballykissangel, a waterfall in the Wicklow Gap, and a movie set are on today’s itinerary.  Painting:  Winter scene.

17.    Portlaoise - Frank stops at an art gallery in the lovely town of Portlaoise, and encounters some fellow artists outdoors.  Painting:  Portlaoise Lake and artist.

18.    Rock Of Dunamase - At Dunamase Fortress, Frank tells a story of Ireland’s Norman conquest.  Stops include a 6th century round tower and Heywood Gardens.  Painting:  Dunamase Fortress.

19.    The Grand Canal - Frank assists the lockkeeper at Vicarstown, on the banks of Ireland’s Grand Canal.  Painting:  Canal and lock gate.

20.    Oriel Gallery - At Dublin’s Oriel Gallery, Frank proudly shows off the works of some of  Ireland’s finest artists, including landscape watercolourist Percy French and one Mr. Clarke.  Painting:  Marshy bog at sunrise.

21.    Mainland - Frank stops at Kylemore Abbey in Connemara, a girls school run by French Benedictine nuns, and the salmon-filled Delphi River.  Painting:  Lake reflections at Kylemore Abbey.

22.    Inishboffin 1 - At the offshore islands of Inishboffin, in Galway Bay, Frank visits a fort on a promontory and the westernmost point in Ireland.  Painting:  Navigation guide post in harbour.

23.    Inishboffin 2 - Frank continues his visit to the Inishboffin islands, exploring he beach, a Cromwellian fort and a local museum.  Painting:  Cottages on the beach.

24.    Inishturk - Frank visits the harbouir, a pub and a boat yard on Inishturk island, 11 kilometers off the west Irish coast.  Painting:  Black boat in the harbour.

25.    Clare Island - Frank continues his island itinerary with Clare Island, home to Grace O’Malley, the Amazonian pirate queen.  Frank visits the ruins of Grace’s castle and a Carmelite abbey.  Painting:  Couple on beach by a cottage.

1.    Frank Clarke, Ireland’s favourite painter opens his new series from one of Irelands’  most frequented landmarks - Croagh Patrick, Co Mayo, setting the theme for these 26 programmes which takes him from Westport to Wales.

2.    In this programme Frank is joined by his friend Finbar Furey in the beautiful setting of Glendalough (Glen of The Two Lakes) and shows you how to paint it’s famous Round Tower.

3.    Made famous by watercolourist Walter Osbourne, the view from Portmarnock Strand has all the elements of a beautiful seascape.  Frank shows you how to bring it all together.

1.    Connemara Mountain Scene - In this first programme, Frank shows the viewer how to paint a landscape using his “Have Some More Fun” method.
