Countries less Travelled is the very opposite of glossy travel programs, with beautiful presenters in expensive resorts. Countries less Travelled is about two baby boomers who are travellers rather than tourists. They prefer to travel to remote destinations in the Pacific so far off the beaten track that tourists are not to be found.
Presenters Catherine and John experience remote countries at a grass roots level, meeting the people and absorbing the culture. They travel on public transport rather than a tour bus. Being a film crew of two, they can capture remarkably intimate footage of real people.
Countries less Travelled is adventure, documentary and an exploration of how various people adapt to their environment and how their culture suppports their lifestyles.
The series challenges our Western obsession for possessing things by presenting people who appear to be deprived yet who live a far richer life than us.
